Mexican athletes continue on their Olympic road to Paris 2024. On July 30, Prisca Awiti won the second medal of these games for Mexico. Not only that, but this is the first time Mexico has won a medal in this discipline.
Prisca Awiti wins first Judo medal for Mexico
In a spectacular participation Prisca faced Andreja Leski in the Judo final. In the end he got second place and took the silver medal. It is worth mentioning that this is the first time that a Mexican athlete has reached the podium in Judo.
This is the first time Mexico has won a silver medal at the Olympic Games since Rio de Janeiro 2016, as no silver medals were won at Tokyo 2020. Respect to Paris 2024 this is the second medal obtained, as the women’s archery team (Ale Valencia, Ángela Ruíz and Ana Vázquez) won the bronze medal.
Mexico will meet this 2024 100 years of participating in the Olympic Games. His first official participation dates back to Paris 1924. Since then (and counting the two recent medals) our country has obtained 75 medals.
