It’s time to have fun, relax, and get out of the house to make the most of your days off. Get ready to fill up your calendar because here’s a short list of free local events happening this weekend in Mexico City.
And we say “small” because it’s just a taste of what we’ll have between Friday, June 12, and Sunday, June 14, 2026; as you probably already know, the complete list with more than twenty options (both free and paid) can be found here. Without further ado, let’s get started.
Mexico City will celebrate the start of the tournament with a 3-kilometer parade that will showcase local traditions and soccer history. The route will feature themed floats depicting previous World Cups held in the country, displays dedicated to Xochimilco, a tribute to Diego Maradona, and Day of the Dead-themed floatsto honor soccer legends.
The parade will feature giant balloons of Juanito and Pique (the mascots of Mexico 1970 and 1986), as well as monumental alebrijes, dozens of catrinas, and pre-Hispanic dancers. A batucada of 50 wrestlers and Sonido La Changa, aboard their own vehicle, will provide the musical accompaniment as the parade proceeds down the avenue.
Mexico City will host an exhibition showcasing the cuisine, traditions, and art of Arab nations. The event will offer tastings of traditional sweets, spiced coffee, and signature dishes, as well as the option to get henna tattoos.
The cultural program will include calligraphy workshops, lectures, screenings, and book presentations aimed at exploring the architecture and history of this civilization.
The Tlalpan municipal government will bring together barbacoa masters and families from the district’s indigenous communities for a festival focused on reviving traditional cooking methods using earth ovens and maguey leaves. Attendees will find time-honored recipes, consommé, and a variety of corn-based snacks.
The event will feature live music, local crafts for sale, and cultural activities to complement the food festivals in southern Mexico City.
Las Bestias Danzan Show
The Liga-Teatro Elástico will present an interactive piece dedicated to the return of the Mexican gray wolf, a species declared extinct in the wild more than five decades ago. The event will combine a workshop focused on children and young people with a theatrical performance featuring articulated beasts.
The artists will assemble the large-scale puppets in full view of the audience and then manipulate them above the heads of the crowd. The choreography will recreate the dynamic between hunter and prey, moving to the rhythm of traditional sones.
Tribute to Miles Davis and John Coltrane at the Cenart
Among the free local events this weekend in Mexico City is the show “Miles and Coltrane at 100,” in which the Joe D’Etienne Big Band will perform a repertoire dedicated to the centennial of the births of Miles Davis and John Coltrane.
The musical program will bring together the most iconic compositions by both musicians to explore their legacy and evolution within the history of jazz.
The Jardín Mundial event will feature concerts, theatrical productions, and outdoor dance performances. The lineup will range from the rhythms of Tambuco Percussion Ensemble to the humor of the play Ubú Rey by Carro de Comedias.
Over the weekend, performers from the Las Bestias Danzan company will traverse the forest trails. At the same time, the Ballet Folklórico de México will offer performances with live mariachi music at the Pabellón Escénico, and the production Tequila y canción, pal corazón will pay tribute to the figure of Lucha Reyes.
The Bellas Artes Chamber Orchestra (OCBA) will close out the Sunday program with the symphonic recital “Mexico Vibrates with the OCBA.” The repertoire will include world premieres and pieces by composer Arturo Márquez.
The new Tlallipan pedestrian promenade will feature large-scale audiovisual installations showcasing Mexican art. Attendees will see two nighttime installations: Mexican Muralism: The Art That Changed Everything and Frida Kahlo: I Paint, Therefore I Am, distributed throughout the green spaces and rest areas.
The venue allows pets on a leash. Park rules strictly prohibit access with bicycles, roller skates, or scooters, as well as smoking, hosting parties, and consuming alcoholic beverages within the premises.
