Have you been dying of heat too? We have to tell you that experts from the UNAM have launched an investigation that proves that the temperature in Mexico is increasing more than in the rest of the planet, let us explain!
While in the rest of the world the temperature increases an average of approximately 2º Celsius per century, in Mexico the increase was 3.2º degrees.
And besides being able to feel it, it is no secret that the temperature of the planet in general has been increasing at alarming levels during the last few years.
During the conference “Current trends of climate change in Mexico, Francisco Estrada Porrúa, head of the Climate Change Research Program, explained:
For the specific case of Mexico, what can be seen is that from the pre-industrial period to 2024 the temperature has risen by 1.8 degrees; that is, we have warmed up more than the planet’s average and the rate of warming is greater. In other words, while the world is warming approximately 2 degrees per century, in our country it is 3.2 degrees per century”.
This increase poses significant risks in different sectors of the country, such as the economy, agriculture, and the quality of life in general for all Mexicans.
Why is the temperature in Mexico increasing more than in the rest of the world?
The increase in temperature on the planet is due to different human activities such as energy consumption and the increase in global emissions.
In the particular case of Mexico, it is mainly caused by the excessive use of fossil fuels, deforestation, uncontrolled urban growth and the increase of greenhouse gas emissions.
Also a major factor to consider are the famous heat islands located within large cities, which aggravate the climate situation.
During the conference, the urgency of building a more informed environmental citizenship committed to generating changes that would benefit everyone was raised.
