Are you a fan of astronomical events? Then get ready because, during July and August, we will see the Perseids 2024 star shower. It is worth noting that it is the most intense of the year, with up to 140 objects per hour, so it’s time to pay attention to the sky!
This shower of stars comes from comet P/Swift-Tuttle, which was discovered in 1862. As this comet makes its trajectory, it leaves a trail of dust. According to NASA information, every year, our planet passes through this trail, thus originating the Perseids.
When will we see the Perseids star shower in 2024?
As explained in the Yearbook of the National Astronomical Observatory of the UNAM, the meteor shower will begin on July 17 and end on August 24, which means that we will have more than a month to see it.
However, there is one specific day when you will be able to enjoy it best. It is August 24, when the said astronomical event will reach its peak. It will be a spectacle not to be missed, as you will see up to 140 objects per hour (remember that this is the most intense star shower of the year).
The Perseids can be seen with the naked eye, although it is recommended that you take a short trip to see them. The idea is that there is less light pollution around you.
Before the end of the year, we will see several more meteor showers, including two very intense ones. From November 14 to 21, we will see the Leonids (about 100 objects per hour). The best day to see them will be November 17.
Finally, from December 7 to 17, the Geminids will cross the sky. We will appreciate about 120 stars per hour. It will peak on December 14.
