1. Nevado de Toluca
The Nevado de Toluca National Park is a place you must visit at least once in your life. The majestic Xinantécatl volcano is located here. You can also visit the lagoons “El Sol” and “La Luna”. In winter you will see snow!
To get to this site you must first go to the Central de Autobuses de Observatorio; look for the bus that goes to Terminal de Toluca. Once there, you will have to buy a trip to Raíces, in the municipality of Zinacantepec, Toluca.
When you arrive, go to the vans bound for the Parque de los Venados and, at this place, there will be other vans that will drop you off at your destination; they charge around $50.
2. Tepotzotlán
If you are looking for places near CDMX where you can get there by public transportation, Tepotzotlán should be on your list. This magical town has a lot of tourist attractions such as the National Museum of the Viceroyalty, the Ex Convent of San Francisco Javier and, one of the favorites, the Arcos del Sitio or Aqueduct of Tepotzotlán.
There are different routes to get to downtown Tepotzotlán. Here is one of the easiest: first go to the Suburban Train at the Buenavista station (inside the Buenavista Forum); get off at the Lechería station.
Walk to the pedestrian bridge on Del Parque Avenue and get on the Quebrada-Margarita Maza de Juárez route. After approximately 40 minutes, get off at the Querétaro stop; you will be less than 200 meters from the Center.
3. Pyramids of Teotihuacán
One of the must-see and most important places in Mexico is the Archaeological Zone of Teotihuacan. Here you will find monumental buildings of the Teotihuacan civilizations such as the pyramids of the Sun and the Moon. In addition, you will see archaeological pieces in the museum.
One of the easiest ways to get there by public transportation is to take Metro Line 3 towards Indios Verdes; get off at this station. Now, go to Metrobus Line 1 Indios Verdes-Texcoco (it is a green vehicle) and get off at the next stop: entrance to Tequistlán.
Then, walk to the Tequistlán Bridge and get on the Texcoco-Tulancingo route; get off at the Pirámides de Teotihuacán and Circuito Pirámides station. You will have to walk about 250 meters to reach the archaeological site. Please note that it is open from Monday to Sunday from 8:00 to 17:00 and the entrance fee is $95.
