If you hang out in the south of Mexico City, it is very likely that you have visited at least once the sculptures of the Ruta de la Amistad, which were elaborated on the occasion of the 68 Olympic Games.
There are 19 pieces that were elaborated by artists from all over the world. Each one is made mainly of concrete and measures between 7 and 26 meters, according to the Patronato de la Ruta de la Amistad website.
They were originally located around Periférico Sur and you could find one every mile or so. Today, most of these sculptures are located within walking distance of each other. And while we’re on the subject of Olympic Games fever for Paris 2024 we bring you more details about these pieces.

These sculptures were abandoned for more than 20 years; however, they were restored and today they can be seen as new. Currently you can see them in two parts: Perisur, very close to the Metrobus stations Doctor Gálvez and Villa Olímpica, and in the vicinity of the Tren Ligero Xomali station.
As we told you, each one was made by a different artist. The so-called Tower of the Winds was created by Gonzalo Fonseca, who was born in Montevideo, Uruguay; while the Reloj Solar was created by Grzegorz Kowalski, originally from Poland.
You will also see the piece Tertulia de Gigantes by Joop J. Beljon, from the Netherlands. As you can see each of the sculptures is different and has a story behind it. In fact, the huge piece you can see outside the Azteca Stadium is also part of the Ruta de la Amistad. Its name is Red Sun and its author is Alexander Calder.
All the pieces are outdoors and you can see them whenever you want. Here we leave you the map with location of each one.
