Nearly six thousand pieces make up the new image of the second floor of the Museum of Anthropology. Through the exhibition “Greatness and Cultural Diversity of Mexico”, you will learn all about the country’s original peoples. You can visit this area now!
According to a press release from the National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH), the last time the remodeled rooms were updated (museologically and museographically) was in 2000.
In the five rooms that were renovated you will find the work of more than 300 artists and artisans. They have been open to the public since January 7, 2025. Let’s go see them!
This is how the second floor of the Museum of Anthropology looks like.
As we told you, a total of 5 rooms were reopened:
- Histories, identities and resistance
- Peoples, languages and territories
- Maíces, milpas, the land and food
- Textiles of Mexico
- Festivals and rituals
In each one of them you will find an example of the great diversity that exists in Mexico and you will learn more about the native peoples and Afro-descendants. In fact, the idea is that the National Museum of Anthropology not only exhibits the past of our country but also its present.
Throughout the second floor you will see everything, including musical instruments, murals, masks, paintings, tools and even traditional clothing. In addition, you will learn more about Mexico’s 68 ethnolinguistic groups.
You can visit the Museum of Anthropology from Tuesday to Sunday, from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm. The entrance fee is $100 per person. However, on Sundays there is free admission for Mexicans and foreigners residing in Mexico.
