The week-end is a good time for sightseeing in Mexico City, especially because there are museums with free tickets on Sundays. These venues usually charge admission on weekdays; however, during Sundays the tickets are free. Save the tour!
1. Templo Mayor Museum
This site exhibits more than 7,000 objects from pre-Hispanic times. Of the eight rooms, the first four are dedicated to Huitzilopochtli. It also has temporary exhibitions.
Here you will learn more about the rituals and sacrifices, the flora and fauna, as well as the archaeological background. You should know that from Tuesday to Saturday the entrance fee is $95, but on Sunday the ticket is free for Mexicans and foreigners residing in Mexico.

2. Museum of Anthropology
Besides being one of the most popular museums in CDMX, it is one of the museums with free tickets on Sundays. Through its rooms you will learn more about our history and roots, the settlement of America and more information about native cultures.
Tickets cost $95 from Tuesday through Saturday; on Sundays, admission is free for nationals and foreigners residing in Mexico. Now, there is a guided tour where you will know the Templo Mayor and the Anthropology Museum, you can find your tickets here.

3. Folk Art Museum
This museum was inaugurated in 2006 and since then it has been in charge of promoting Mexican popular art through its exhibitions, workshops, courses, seminars and other activities. In each of the pieces you can see our roots and traditions reflected.
It also has the traditional piñata contests y kites. One of the favorite events is the Monumental Alebrijes Parade where giant pieces are displayed in the main streets of CDMX. It is also publicly accessible.
Tuesday through Saturday tickets cost $60. Sunday is free tickets.

4. National Museum of History
In this museum you can take a historical tour from the conquest of Tenochtitlan to the Mexican Revolution. You will find an infinite number of articles from different periods in its 12 permanent exhibition rooms.
Also in the “Alcazar” area you can see recreations of the rooms of Maximiliano and Carlota, and Porfirio Diaz. On Sundays there are free tickets for national public and foreign residents of Mexico. The rest of the days visitors pay $95.

5. Diego Rivera and Frida Kahlo House and Studio Museum
Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera lived in this house for some years. You will be able to know every detail of this space where both artists lived and worked, as well as enjoy temporary exhibitions.
Sunday is free admission, while Tuesday through Saturday is $45 per person.

6. Tamayo Museum
The museum has a main collection of 850 works by different artists. Its initial objective is to show, through its exhibitions, the great variety of modern and contemporary art, both national and international.

7. Carrillo Gil Art Museum
If Mexican art is your thing, you’ll love this museum. The original collection was created by Dr. Alvar Carrillo Gil and his wife Carmen Tejero. It focuses on Mexican art of the 20th century. Tickets are $65, with free admission on Sundays.

8. San Carlos National Museum
It is one of the museums that are free on Sunday. Through its five rooms you will be able to see the oldest and most important collection of European art in Latin America. You will find pieces from the 14th, 15th and 20th centuries, including Renaissance and Neoclassical works. It also has many temporary exhibitions.
The usual ticket cost is $65 per person.

9. Museum of Modern Art
Its main collection is made up of nearly 3,000 paintings, drawings, photographs, sculptures and engravings of Mexican art from the 20th century. There are also temporary exhibitions. General admission tickets are $90, while Sundays are free.

10. Museum of the Palace of Fine Arts
In addition to its impressive structure, this design holds secrets inside. Visitors will see 17 murals by seven Mexican artists including Diego Rivera and David Alfaro Siqueiros. Tuesday through Saturday tickets are $90.
