The Cacao and Chocolate Museum, Choco Story Zócalo, is celebrating its first anniversary with seven days of cultural, culinary, and family-friendly activities that will add a delicious and fun touch to your summer.
The celebration will take place from Monday, August 17, through Sunday, August 23, 2026, at its location at República de Guatemala 24, in the Historic Center, right behind the Metropolitan Cathedral.
The program combines activities included in the admission ticket with workshops and tastings, which incur an additional cost. Among the offerings, you’ll find a creative workshop to make chocolate bars, sculptures, and lollipops with various toppings ( 250 pesos for half an hour and 500 pesos for an hour) and a metate chocolate workshop, where participants will prepare their own chocolate and a drink made from it, at a cost of 250 pesos. Both workshops will have three sessions per day: 11:30 a.m., 1:00 p.m., and 3:30 p. m.
Activities Monday through Friday
As we mentioned, from Monday, August 17, through Friday, August 21, the museum will offer activities included with admission.
- At 10:00 a.m., there will be a “Paint Your Cacao” session for children, combining drawing with information about the origin and history of this fruit.
- Starting at 11:00 a.m., the auditorium will screen a mini-documentary about the Huei Tzompantli every 30 minutes, featuring panoramic views of the Templo Mayor, the Metropolitan Cathedral, and other nearby buildings.
- In addition, at 12:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m., there will be tastings of chocolates featuring flavors from around the world, during which the creative process and craftsmanship behind each piece will be explained; the cost is 250 pesos.
Saturday, August 22: Archaeology and a concert
Saturday , August 22, will feature the week’s most notable activities.
- At 11:00 a.m., Metate Studio will host a family bingo game with chocolate-covered marshmallows as prizes. This activity is included with general admission.
- At 12:00 p.m., there will be a new chocolate tasting for 250 pesos.
- At 4:00 p.m. sharp, archaeologist Raúl Barrera Rodríguez, director of the Urban Archaeology Program at the Templo Mayor Museum of the National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH), will deliver the lecture “The Huei Tzompantli of Tenochtitlan: Chronicle of an Archaeological Discovery,” which is included with the general admission ticket.
- The day will conclude with a concert at 5:00 p.m., also included with admission.
Closes Sunday, August 23
On Sunday, August 23, the anniversary week will close with another “Pinta tu cacao” session at 10:00 a.m., chocolate tasting sessions at 12:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m., and a second concert at 5:00 p.m. All activities are subject to capacity and availability.

The museum is open daily from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. General admission tickets are priced as follows: 240 pesos for adults; 180 pesos for local residents with ID; 140 pesos for students and seniors; 90 pesos for children ages 3 to 12; and free admission for children ages 0 to 2.
Admission includes access to the tour of the museum’s 18 galleries, featuring more than 700 pieces from the collection, Wi-Fi, and an audio guide in five languages.
