The most anticipated season of the year has already begun. If you want to witness one of Mexico’s most impressive natural spectacles , the Turibús Firefly Tour will take you from Mexico City to the Firefly Sanctuary in Tlaxcala, where thousands of fireflies light up the forest on summer nights.
The experience is part of Turitour and combines nature, cuisine, and culture in a getaway lasting approximately 17 hours. In addition to visiting the famous sanctuary in Nanacamilpa, travelers will explore Tlaxco, one of the state’s most beautiful “Pueblos Mágicos.”
The trip includes a visit to Tlaxco, a buffet, and a cheese tasting
Before reaching the forest, the tour stops in Tlaxco. There, you can explore the San Agustín Parish Church, stroll through its streets lined with traditional architecture, and visit the Wood Museum.
One of the highlights of the trip is a tasting of artisanal cheeses made by local producers. A buffet lunch featuring regional specialties is also included to round out the experience.
The tour includes round-trip transportation from Mexico City, a group coordinator, travel insurance, and access to all scheduled activities.
Here’s what the visit to the Firefly Sanctuary will be like
The highlight of the tour comes at nightfall. At the Firefly Sanctuary, located in the forests of Nanacamilpa, visitors can observe thousands of Photinus palaciosi fireflies, which each summer put on a bioluminescent display unique in the country.
During the hike, the forest of oyamel, pine, and oak trees lights up with synchronized flashes of light that create an almost magical atmosphere. To round out the experience, participants will enjoy a snack of artisanal bread and a hot beverage surrounded by nature.
