The most magical season of the year is just around the corner, and yes, it’s very close to the city. From June 26 to August 2, you can experience fireflies at Hacienda Panoaya, a forest located just an hour from Mexico City where thousands of these insects light up the landscape on summer nights.
The experience takes place in the Christmas Tree Forest and is designed for the whole family. Here you can take guided night walks among fireflies while learning about their conservation and the ecosystem where they live.
One of the most appealing aspects is that the trail is easy to navigate and wheelchair accessible, so practically anyone can enjoy it. Additionally, during the visit, there will be talks and workshops led by specialized guides.
What’s included in the firefly experience at Hacienda Panoaya
In addition to the night walks, the site has a camping area, so you can extend your stay and spend the night surrounded by the forest. It’s definitely a great option for those looking for a unique getaway near Mexico City without having to travel far.
Just remember: wear warm clothes and comfortable shoes, and avoid using flashlights or camera flashes during the tour so as not to disturb the fireflies.
The season will be open only from Friday to Sunday, so it is recommended to book in advance, especially during holidays and weekends.
