Mexico City is getting ready to be filled with marigolds, candles, and tradition! The Day of the Dead 2026 is fast approaching, and among the activities planned for this celebration are numerous offerings that, in addition to the one in the Zócalo, will be set up in various neighborhoods throughout the city.
At a press conference, officials from the Mexico City Ministry of Culture confirmed that the altars will be on display from October 29 to November 2; they will be located in:
- Meyehualco, Iztapalapa
- Cent Tlalli, Magdalena Contreras
- Temictli Tecómitl, Milpa Alta
- Centli Topilejo, Tlalpan
- Ceylán, Azcapotzalco
- Elena Poniatowska, Coyoacán
- La Heróica, Venustiano Carranza
- Mixiuhca, Iztacalco
The best part is that you’ll be able to participate in creating these altars, as there will be workshops on how to make them. Below are the dates and times:
There will also be an offering at La Soberana, the “Utopia” set to open in the Gustavo A. Madero borough. Additionally, an offering at the Plaza de las Tres Culturas in Tlatelolco has been added to the list; you’ll see figures up to 4.5 meters tall!
The Most Spectacular Offerings of 2026 in Mexico City
As you probably already know, the now-traditional Megaofrenda will be set up in the Zócalo; this year’s edition will feature a monumental Catrina that aims to break a Guinness World Record.
Of course, this year’s UNAM altar will not be missing; it will be set up in the Universum parking lot.
If you’re planning to see this year’s altars (and none of these suggestions quite fit your plans), check out our list of altars that will be set up in the city this year. You’ll have plenty to choose from!
More Day of the Dead events!
This is one of the times of year when there are the most opportunities to get out and about; you can check them all out in the Day of the Dead guide we’ve created especially for you. But if we had to choose just three, we’d recommend: the Llorona show in Xochimilco, the “Catrina Tour” at the Monument to the Revolution—which includes pan de muerto and hot chocolate—and the Day of the Dead light show. Which one will you choose?
