Attention, collectors! Little by little, details are being released about the actions and activities that will be carried out around this sporting event. On March 11, the Senate approved the creation of commemorative coins for the 2026 World Cup.
According to a press release, the collection will be made up of nine coins that will refer to the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be jointly organized by Mexico, Canada and the United States.
What will the 2026 World Cup commemorative coins look like?
The coins will be made of different materials. Three will be made of gold and will have a face value of $25; another three will be made of silver and their value will be $10; while the rest will be made of alpaca alloy and bronze-aluminum; the latter will have a value of $20.
It is not yet known what the design of these coins will be; what is known is that Banco de México will be in charge of the designs.
It is worth mentioning that these are not the only coins that will be created. Three more collections will also be created, which do not refer to the World Cup:
- Silver coin to commemorate the centennial of Banco de Mexico.
- A collection of 10 silver coins for Mexico’s Intangible Cultural Heritage, referring to fiestas, mariachi and traditional cuisine.
- Pre-Hispanic Collection, which will be composed of 20 silver coins. It will have designs from different cultures such as Aztec, Mayan and Olmec.
