Mexico City’s Historic Center will debut a new way to get around: the Centrobús, an electric transit system designed to take you to the city’s most iconic landmarks quickly, affordably, and sustainably.
Mayor Clara Brugada presented this project, which aims not only to improve mobility but also to offer a more user-friendly experience for locals and tourists alike.
One of the most striking details is its cost: the fare will be just $5 pesos, the same price as the Mexico City Metro. Ideal if you plan to head downtown to stroll, shop, or visit spots like the Palace of Fine Arts or the Zócalo.
Two routes to explore the heart of the city
The Centrobús will have two routes (inner and outer) covering key streets in the Historic Center. In total , there will be 33 stops connecting more than 180 cultural, tourist, and commercial sites.
Additionally, it will connect with systems like the Metrobús and the Trolleybus, making it easier to get around the entire area.
The vehicles are 100% electric, equipped with Wi-Fi, GPS, security cameras, USB chargers, and universal accessibility. There will also be screens at each stop to check arrival times and routes in real time (even in multiple languages!).
An interesting fact: all the operators will be women, making it the first system of its kind in the city.
When will you be able to use the Centrobús?
Although operational tests have already begun, the Centrobús will officially begin service on May 8. It is expected to transport thousands of people starting on its first day, with buses running approximately every 5 minutes.
