Want to spend the Day of the Dead outside of the CDMX? If you don’t have time to make a long trip, very close to the capital there will be one of the most brilliant and full of tradition spectacles: the Festival of Light and Life in Chignahuapan, Puebla.
In our city there will be wonderful events for the season of the dead, but it is enough to take a trip a few hours away to find stunning shows like this one, which will honor tradition with dance and theater.
These are the dates and shows of the Festival de la Luz y la Vida (Festival of Light and Life)
The magical town of Chignahuapan in Puebla is about to become a huge stage of fire, color and memory. The Festival of Light and Life will be held from October 30 to November 3 with a wonderful program for those who want to live the Day of the Dead with celebrations that highlight the roots of Mexican culture.
More than 80 dancers from the region will surprise the public with a stunning outdoor performance in the lagoon area of the town. This scenic activity will tell the story of the tradition of the season of the dead since ancient times in Mexico.
In addition to talented artists on stage, the play includes a 14-meter high 3D pyramid. This presentation will be on October 30 and 31 at 8:00 pm, November 1 at 7:00 pm and Sunday 2 at 8:00 pm.
During the days of the festival there will be a Torchlight March along the Calzada de las Almas at different times. And that’s not all! More than 1,000 torches will light the way from the Zócalo to the Laguna as a symbol of guidance for the souls in the afterlife.
And if you already have one foot in Christmas, on October 30 at 20:45 the Christmas spirit will appear at the Festival of Light and Life in Chignahuapan for the lighting of the monumental Christmas tree in the town’s Zócalo. Get your bags ready because this event is not to be missed and only a few hours away from CDMX!
