Day of the Dead is breathing down our necks! We already know when and where you will be able to see the UNAM 2024 Megaofrenda, as well as the theme it will address this year. Are you ready to see it?
Mexico City celebrates Day of the Dead in a big way. In fact, we can see incredible ofrendas in different parts of the city. One of the unmissable altars is the one at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), which offers a different theme every year. This year it will be available from Friday, November 1.
Confirmed details of the UNAM Megaofrenda 2024
This year’s theme will be “Mexico seen through the lens“. If that still doesn’t tell you much, let us explain better: in this edition the altars will be dedicated to the great works of Mexican cinema, as well as to the people who made them possible.
So we can expect offerings dedicated to Pedro Infante, Blanca Estela Pavón, Jorge Negrete, María Félix, Dolores del Río, Emilio “Indio” Fernández, Mario Moreno “Cantinflas” or Sara García, just to mention a few names.
But that’s not all. The call seeks to highlight the work of screenwriters, photographers, filmmakers and documentary makers.
The altars will be set up on October 30 and 31.
As for when you can see the UNAM 2024 Megaofrenda, it will be open from Friday, November 1 to Sunday, November 3, from 11:00 to 21:00 hours. On Monday 4 at 10:00 a.m. they will begin to dismantle everything.
The call establishes that each altar must measure a maximum of two meters long, two meters wide and 1.50 meters high.
Although it is emphasized that the materials to be used must be resistant (because they will be exposed to the elements), one of the specifications is that they must be recyclable and non-polluting. In addition, the only non-perishable item that will be admitted will be cempasúchil flowers.
In case you didn’t know, this will be the 28th Day of the Dead University Festival.
