The Day of the Dead 2025 season is about to end; however, there are still several activities in Mexico City. Check the dates and schedule to see the opera Cuauhtemóctzin in the Zócalo of CDMX. There will only be a few performances.
As you know, the main theme of the Zócalo’s offering is the 700 years of Mexico Tenochtitlan. In fact the film opera Cuauhtemóctzin is set in the pre-Hispanic era, so the Plaza de la Constitución will be a great stage to see it.
The show is based on an essay by Aniceto Ortega and has Ysabel as a character, who, on her deathbed will remember several passages of her life, including her relationship with Cuauhtemóctzin.
One of the highlights of the play is that it will be narrated in Spanish, as well as in Nahuatl and Maya. Access will be free of charge and will include the participation of different artists.
Schedule of the opera in the Zócalo
Through its official accounts, Mexico City’s Ministry of Culture informed that the performances of the opera Cuauhtemóctzin will be at 7:00 pm on October 31, as well as on November 1 and 2. As you can see there will only be three performances of this work that also pays tribute to the last Mexica tlatoani.
You can also take the opportunity to see the monumental offering in the Zocalo, which is accompanied by hundreds of cempasúchil flowers and decorative lighting. Here is a sample of what it looks like.
It is worth mentioning that the last day to visit this ofrenda will be Sunday, November 2, so take advantage of the weekend to take a walk.
Among the plans that still remain for the season are the Day of the Dead parade, which will take place on Saturday, November 1 at 2:00 pm, the xoloitzcuintles walk in the Historic Center and more. There will even be a candlelight concert at El Cantoral with emblematic themes of this season.
