Pulque Day in Mexico City has been formalized! This pre-Hispanic drink will be celebrated on the first Sunday in February, starting this year. That means that February 1 , 2026, will be the first official celebration.
On December 21, 2025, the Commission on Regulations, Studies, and Parliamentary Practices approved the ruling recognizing Pulque Day in Mexico City. The declaration went into effect on January 23 and was published in the Official Gazette of Mexico City.
Why is this important? With this new declaration, Mexico City authorities seek to dignify the work of tlachiqueros, the rural economy, ecological balance, and the preservation of the maguey plant.
“To honor pulque is to honor our identity and the cultural dignity of those who have preserved it,” reads the Official Gazette.
They also reported that city councils and autonomous organizations will promote activities to disseminate and value the cultural diversity surrounding pulque.
Below are some of the activities you can enjoy this weekend.
