Coyoacán is an unmissable place to visit during the Day of the Dead. Among its allusive events, the ofrenda that year after year is installed in the Frida Kahlo Museum stands out. The 2024 exhibit is already open to the public and you have until November 📅 28 to visit it.
This edition the altar is inspired by the painting Viva la vida, a very important painting in the artist’s career and famous for being her last work. Before her death, the author made this tribute to life through vibrantly colored watermelons.
Thus, the main element of the offering are watermelons with different cuts and shapes. There are also other essential elements such as marigold flowers, candles, pan de muerto (bread of the dead) and fruit.
In addition to two self-portraits of Frida Kahlo, the ofrenda features photographs of other still life pieces. Pay close attention, as you will see some of her phrases and texts related to life, nature and transformation.
