Every October, neighbors already know that these Halloween-decorated facades will be spectacular.
If you’re more of a Day of the Dead person, there are unmissable facades for you too.
And of course you won’t want to miss the most amazing ofrendas of the season.
If you’re already looking for your costume this year, we hope you find a very spooky one.
Decorated Halloween facades in Naucalpan, Edomex
It’s true that you’ll have to go out of town a bit to enjoy them, but we promise you that the trip will be worth it.
The first of our proposals in Naucalpan is located at 📍 Avenida de Ailes, Jardines de San Mateo. They put so many lights on it, you’ll recognize it from miles away.
We discovered it in 2022, when they paid homage to Stranger Things. In one corner they put the entrance to the upside down, as well as the alphabet with lights used by Joyce to communicate with Will on a wall, or a creepy Vecna hanging between two trees.
Special mention for the body (😰) of Max suspended in the air above the terrace… wow, they even had Kate Bush’ s “Running Up That Hill” as the mood music! It was insane.
Last year, they were inspired by The Nightmare before Christmas (or Jack’s Strange World), which, as you can see in our video, also looked great:
Closer to CDMX, in Echegaray, there is another spectacular facade that last year set the bar very high. The decoration included minisets with legendary scenes from The Exorcist, Friday the 13th, The Shining, or A Nightmare on Elm Street.
The most surprising thing was to see Freddy Krueger, Jason or Regan MacNeil move and make sounds.
You can find it at 📍 colonia Colón Echegaray and they usually finish decorating it on October 31st, a day that last year they even gave away popcorn to the people who came.
It is already a tradition among the locals, although people from other places know that it is worth a visit.
In 2022 they dedicated their façade to Jurassic Park and even had a giant pterodactyl suspended in the air. Another year, we also saw one dedicated to Ghostbusters, with huge scale figures of the Empire State Building, the Chrysler and other famous New York skyscrapers.
In both cases, the best thing to do is to take a tour during the last days of October, starting on the 27th, when the facades are already complete.
And two Day of the Dead must-sees
El Hortel Marquis did it again! This other one of the decorated facades is not inspired by Halloween, but by the very Mexican tradition of Day of the Dead.
This year the entrance (📍 Paseo de la Reforma 465, Cuauhtémoc) pays homage to Huichol art and national and international celebrities.
There are handmade cardboard skulls inspired by Tintan, Michael Jackson, Cantinflas, Marilyn Monroe or Maria Felix.
The entire exhibition, entitled “Creative Souls“, was in charge of César Menchaca and you can go and take pictures. The artist and his team of artisans did a meticulous job to cover his figures completely with chaquiras.
Don’t miss the skulls dedicated to pets that are no longer around. 🥹 It will be available until November 4.
And at another spot in the city, at Madre Café (📍 Orizaba 131, Roma Norte, Cuauhtémoc), another surprise awaits you.
Monumental catrinas inspired by Frida Kahlo, Diego Rivera and a little xoloitzcuintle dog welcome you to this famous café in our city. They were created by Menchada Studio itself, also with Huichol-inspired artisanal work. It will be available all October, don’t miss it!
