
Great news! There is a new member in the family of giraffes that inhabits the Chapultepec Zoo. We tell you all about Jabari, the new baby giraffe of Chapultepec.
This good news was announced by the Ministry of the Environment (SEDEMA), and in the press release it enthusiastically reported the birth of a baby giraffe at the Chapultepec Wildlife Conservation Center.
The baby giraffe of Chapultepec is a male and was born on December 30, 2024, after a gestation period of approximately 14 months!
The parents? Luna, a six-year-old female giraffe who has been the best mom, and Valentino, a five-year-old male giraffe who is also part of the herd that lives in the African Savannah part of the Conservation Center.
The calf has been named Jabari, which means brave in Swahili, in recognition of his strength and energy from his first moments of life. This little one has shown excellent health and great vitality.
How is the new baby giraffe of Chapultepec cared for?
Giraffes are the tallest land mammals in the world and unfortunately they are in danger of extinction, but what is the care they receive at the Chapultepec Wildlife Conservation Center?
These beautiful animals receive a balanced diet based on alfalfa, oats and concentrated feed. They also participate in enrichment programs that promote their physical and mental well-being.
When can you meet Jabari?
Little Jabari already lives with the rest of the giraffe family, as well as with other inhabitants of the African savannah, such as antelopes, cranes and zebras, in an environment that simulates the African savannah, so you can go and see him and melt with tenderness!
