Go check out these free Day of the Dead installations in CDMX before they’re over! Most of them are outdoors. You’ll be able to take amazing photos at each of them. How many have you visited?
1. Cempasúchil flowers in Paseo de la Reforma
One of the traditional places to visit during these dates is Paseo de la Reforma, where every year thousands of marigold flowers are placed. It is very common to see people taking pictures of themselves on the sidewalk near the Angel of Independence. Do you already have your picture?

2. Mexicráneos
The Mexicráneos have arrived to Reforma! They are large sculptures that have been intervened by different artists. During your tour you will find pieces from various years, including 2017, 2021 and 2023 editions. You’ll also see a bench with a catrina and a catrin.

3. Candles in the Alameda Central
Locos por el arte and Funeza, funeral services, prepared an exhibition of monumental candles in the Alameda Central. There are six pieces of more than two meters high, which have different design; this yes: everything is allusive to Day of the Dead.

4. Ducklings at Plaza Satélite
More than 25 thousand ducklings will invade Plaza Satélite as part of a Day of the Dead intervention. These ducks will be characterized as Catrinas, in fact you will see four different designs. You’ll find them in the fountain outside Prosecco and in the fast food area of the mall.

5. Monumental Offering in the Zocalo
We already know how the Day of the Dead offering at the Zócalo will look like! This time it will be dedicated to Pancho Villa and will feature a monumental figure of 17 meters high. In addition, a traditional Mexican ofrenda will be placed.

6. Festival of Offerings and Floral Arrangements.
Can you imagine seeing more than 100 ofrendas in the Historic Center? The Festival de Ofrendas y Arreglos Florales 2023 will make it happen. They will be installed in stores, buildings and businesses in this area of Mexico City. The map with the location of each ofrenda will be released soon. It should be noted that they will be placed in places where people can see them with the naked eye.

7. Monumental Alebrijes
Although not specifically themed, we couldn’t leave out the alebrijes from these free Day of the Dead installations in CDMX. After the parade (which will take place on October 21 at 12:00) the more than 200 participating pieces will remain on Paseo de la Reforma as part of a temporary exhibition.

8. Monumental keystones of Tláhuac.
This plan could not be left out of the list of free Day of the Dead installations in CDMX. This event is organized by the Colectivo Jaen Cartonería, who year after year present an exhibition of monumental skulls, which they make themselves.
This 2023 there will be a tribute to Quetzalcoatl.

9. UNAM Megaofrenda
As every Day of the Dead, UNAM installs a monumental and thematic ofrenda. This year it will pay homage to women in the sciences, humanities and arts. You will be able to see it for free in the red court of the Estadio Olímpico Universitario. But, be warned, it will only be available for two days.

10. Everything ready for the traditional lighting in Centro.
The government buildings in the capital’s Zócalo will be lit up with allusive figures. This year the lighting will show figures of José Guadalupe Posadas such as: Gran Fandango and Francachela and Calavera Maderista .
The great lighting was scheduled for October 25, however, the capital authorities postponed this activity in solidarity with those affected by Hurricane Otis.
