The third Wednesday of every month is celebrated the Selfie Day in Museums in order to promote art and boost visits to these precincts. That’s why we bring you the most beautiful museums in CDMX to take pictures. Just remember that museums have specific rules about taking pictures. So try to follow the guidelines at all times.
While all museums have their charm, we chose eight that stand out for their architecture and design. How many have you visited?
1. Museum of Anthropology
It is not only one of the favorite museums in CDMX, but also one of the most beautiful. It was inaugurated on September 17, 1964. It has 22 rooms and was designed by architect Pedro Ramirez, who is also the author of other sites in Mexico City such as the Aztec Stadium and the Museum of Modern Art.
Photographs may be taken as long as they are for personal use. No flash, lights or tripods may be used. If you plan to use a video camera you must ask for a permit which costs $50. In the case of professional photos or film projects it will be necessary to request a special permit through this email: tramites@inah.gob.mx.

2. National Museum of History – Chapultepec Castle
Chapultepec Castle houses the National Museum of History. You will see murals, art pieces and various items related to Mexico’s history. They even recreate the rooms of characters like Maximilian and Carlota. The whole place is incredible, but the gardens get a special mention, both for their design and for the beautiful views they offer.
Regarding photos, no photo shoots or use of professional equipment is allowed.

📍First section of Chapultepec Forest
Natural History Museum
This museum is also located in Chapultepec and its rooms have been remodeled. You will learn more about the origin of the Earth and everything on it. If you haven’t been there in a while we recommend you take a tour, as you’ll find many new surprises.

4. Munal
When we talk about the most beautiful museums in CDMX, this one cannot be missed. The National Museum of Art was formerly the Palace of Communications and Public Works. It exhibits works of art dating back to the 16th century. Its architecture is impressive and characteristic of the 20th century.
It should be mentioned that it is not allowed to take photos or videos for profit or for weddings, modeling, birthdays or similar situations. The photo permit costs $5 and the video permit $30. Under no circumstances should you use lighting, flash or tripod.
In other words: during your visit you can take pictures, but no photo shoots or taking images for commercial or lucrative purposes.

5. Universum
In this museum you will learn more about scientific topics in a very didactic and even immersive way. There are rooms about the ocean, the universe and even water. Just take into account that some rooms have extra cost.

6. Palacio de Bellas Artes Museum
The Palacio de Bellas Artes is not only impressive on the outside, but also on the inside. The museum is mainly characterized by its murals; however, it also has temporary exhibitions. You can take pictures with your cell phone without any problem, just don’t use flash. In the case of photo and video cameras you must pay a permit that has a cost of $30.

7. Anahuacalli
This museum is impressive everywhere you look. The work is by Diego Rivera and he worked on the creation of the museum between 1942 and 1957. The artist died before the museum was completed; however, it is an important part of his legacy. It houses pre-Hispanic figures that he himself collected.
Regarding photos, please do not use flash. To photograph the rooms you must request a permit at the ticket office, which costs $30.

8. Museum of Modern Art
It opened its doors on September 20, 1964 and since then it has been in charge of exhibiting diverse works of art. The architect Pedro Ramírez Vázquez was in charge of designing this precinct. According to the museum’s official website, the goal was for the building to represent modernity. Something that is striking about the design are the five domes it has.

9. Soumaya Museum
This is one of the most beautiful museums in CDMX. While its design is very striking, it is not the only impressive thing you will see because in its rooms there are countless works of art, including a replica of Michelangelo’s David.

10. Museum of the Bank of Mexico
This museum has a lot to offer. Throughout its permanent exhibition it teaches you how money works as well as its evolution over time. It even has an immersive experience (only you can’t take pictures there).
The regulations state that you can take pictures with your cell phone; however, you must not use flash or take pictures of the staff, offices, security filters or cameras.
