October is here! This month will not only bring amazing Day of the Dead events, but it also comes with a new official day off in Mexico. We tell you when it is and why it won’t be repeated every year.
But first things first. The Federal Labor Law contemplates as mandatory rest days:
- January 1
- First Monday of February
- Third Monday in March
- May 1st
- September 16th
- Third Monday in November
- December 25th
December 1 of every six years was also considered as a holiday for the transmission of the Federal Executive Power, but this has changed.
When is the new official day of rest?
Last September 24, the Chamber of Deputies approved that October 1 of every six years will be considered a mandatory day of rest. In other words, it will no longer be December 1.
So, next Tuesday, October 1 will be a day of rest. It is worth mentioning that this date will not be moved to Monday like other days off. So there will be no long weekend.
The next long weekend will be Monday, November 18, when the beginning of the Mexican Revolution will be commemorated. This will be the last long weekend of 2024; while the last mandatory day of rest will be Wednesday, December 25, for Christmas.
