Among the Day of the Dead activities in CDMX, you can’t miss the tour of the ofrendas. Different places in the city set up beautiful altars; themed or with monumental pieces. Here we leave you a list of the must-see places, perfect to visit with the family, take pictures and, above all, remember those who have gone before us. 👇🏽
1. Mega Ofrenda in the Zocalo
In the capital’s Zócalo you will see a monumental offering 17 meters high. It includes 21 giant cardboard pieces, two trajineras, a Xochimilco chinampa and even a 200-square-meter water mirror. Also, you will see a field of cempasúchil with 10 thousand plants. During the night this display is quite a spectacle, as it is illuminated with the Day of the Dead commemorative lighting.

2. Megaofrenda UNAM
Year after year the Máxima Casa de Estudios joins the Day of the Dead events with a huge ofrenda. This year 2024 is no exception; an altar inspired by characters, actors and legendary films of Mexican cinema awaits you. In addition to the exhibition, you will be able to join other allusive activities such as the screening of scary movies where Macario stands out.

3. Museum of Popular Art
Altar for peace and hope is the name of the offering installed at the Museum of Popular Art. You will see the work of artisans from Mexico’s native communities. It seeks to reflect the greatness of the culture of Day of the Dead, the defense of human rights and the struggle for peace.

4. Ofrenda del Futuro

The Ofrenda del Futuro (Offering of the Future) has been installed in the esplanade of the Papalote Museo del Niño, it is dedicated to eight endemic species of Mexico in danger of extinction. Get your camera ready, as every corner is perfect for photos. Plus, there’s an interactive Mexicráneo piece for the little ones to explore.

5. Villa Flores Family
Every year the Villa Flores family sets up a Mega Ofrenda in Gustavo A. Madero. The altar is dedicated to grandparents Alberto Villa and Ana Flores, and the values they instilled in their children and grandchildren. You can see it for free; on October 30 at 17:00 there will be a live concert by Big Band GAM.

6. Fine Arts Offering
In the lobby of the Palace of Fine Arts you will find this altar made by the School of Crafts. The exhibition is made up of several pieces. The main one is a representation of an opera singer who is surrounded by ten skulls. This is one of the most innovative offerings in CDMX during 2024. Are you missing it?

7. Festival de Ofrendas y Arreglos Florales (Floral Arrangements and Offerings Festival)
As part of the Day of the Dead 2024 activities, the fifth Festival of Offerings and Floral Arrangements of Downtown CDMX will begin on October 25. During this event, you will be able to enjoy a variety of altars exhibited by businesses and cultural institutions in the area.
