You don’t need to leave the CDMX to breathe fresh air and spend a day surrounded by nature. Just go to Los Dinamos National Park, a forest in La Magdalena Contreras that has a lot to offer. Here are some of the things you can do there.
First, you should know that there are four Dinamos and each one has different attractions. Also, access (to each Dinamo) has a cost. Now, get ready to fill yourself with green landscapes and visit the last living river in Mexico City. 🏞️
1. Hiking
Get your non-skid boots ready and take a hike through the trees. You can do it on your own, and don’t forget to bring your four-legged friend! There are also guided experiences for beginners and advanced levels. 🚶🏽♀️
Some of them are up to 20 kilometers long! On your tour you will reach viewpoints and you can even have a picnic. You can quote with different agencies such as Outdoor Connections or Senderismo Trail Mexico, just to mention a few. 🥾
2. River and waterfalls
The Magdalena River has an extension of 28 kilometers and is the last living river in Mexico City. It starts at the San Miguel hill (in the Desierto de los Leones) and the best place to see it is the third and fourth Dynamo.
It should be noted that the flow depends on the season of the year in which you go. Remember not to litter in order to continue taking care of this resource. 🏞️
What do you mean you didn’t know there are waterfalls in the CDMX? In Los Dinamos there are different places where you can see them. For example, La Bodega, the Tres Cruces viewpoint or the Sehuaya waterfall. These spots are part of the third and fourth Dinamo.
3. Restaurants
In all four zones there are plenty of dining options. There are plenty of cabanas, stalls and restaurants offering all kinds of Mexican snacks; quesadillas, sopes, pambazos, soups, tacos and much more. Also, there are trout hatcheries where you can catch your own. 🌮
Even if you don’t join one of their activities, Parque Nacional Los Dinamos is an infallible place to have breakfast or lunch during the weekend. 🤤
4. Via Ferrata and rappel
If extreme activities are your thing, you won’t be able to resist this one where you will climb the mountain through a ladder. The descent is done by rappelling, one of the favorite activities for those who enjoy adrenaline. Although if you prefer, you can simply rappel or opt for mountaineering. 🧗🏽♀️
Get a quote from Royal Mobility, an adventure agency that has the equipment and emergency protocol to make you feel safer. 🏔️
5. Cycling
Los Dinamos is a perfect place for biking. Whether you get there via a rodada, which are usually on a paved road and following the city’s ciclovías. 🚲
Or, you train mountain biking. Be careful, because this activity must be controlled with: special bicycle and protective equipment, know what to do in case of emergency and have an ideal nutrition and hydration.
Ciclismo para todos is a cycling experience agency that organizes all kinds of rides and adventures, get your bike ready and organize your next ride to Los Dinamos! 🚵🏽
6. Zipline and other games
At the first and second Dinamo you will find activities for the whole family; from ATV rentals and games for kids, to horseback rides. But one of the favorite attractions is the zipline– imagine being able to see the natural landscapes from the heights and at full speed! 🌲
Keep in mind that the first Dinamos are ideal to go with little ones or older adults, as there are more recreational facilities. This doesn’t mean you can’t enter the other areas, but it might be a bit more tiring, especially if you get there on foot 😉
7. Camping and cabins
Imagine being able to live the experience of visiting this park, but at night. Sounds cool, doesn’t it? You’ll love to know that you can also camp, but keep in mind that it has to be in specific and protected areas. You can also hire an experience agency such as Paidos, experts in setting up campsites. 🏕️
But if comfort is your thing, you can visit Rancho Santa Elena. It is a complex with super-equipped cabins. It is undoubtedly the perfect place to disconnect from the city and relax. 🏚️
