It’s official: at 00:05 this Saturday, September 23, 2023, autumn entered CDMX. 🍁
While spring comes to our city and dresses it in purple with the jacarandas, the third season of the year also has its charm. That’s why we list some of the reasons why we love it.
1. Paseo de la Reforma full of cempasúchil flowers 😍.
On October days, dozens of cempasúchil flowers adorn the prisms on the sidewalks of one of the most beautiful and beloved avenues in the city. Their characteristic color is one of the things we enjoy most this season.
The intense orange of its leaves is perfect for filling your Instagram profile with amazing photos. For sample:
We still don’t have the date when Paseo de la Reforma will be dressed in orange, but we’ll be on the lookout to let you know when you can take the plunge. If you plan to go for a walk, don’t forget to take a sweater… yes, autumn is that time when the sun burns, but in the shade the air is crisp.
2. There is pan de muerto everywhere!
Yes, we know: in CDMX there are bakeries that have it all year round or that start selling it in July. But, for us, the perfect time to eat the delicious pan de muerto is autumn in CDMX. If accompanied by a good hot chocolate…. perfect plan!
3. Autumn in CDMX brings spectacular altars 💀.
Some of the most famous ofrendas de muertos are placed at UNAM and the capital’s Zócalo, but this tradition also fills museums, shopping malls and tourist sites. During October, especially in the last weeks, Day of the Dead ofrendas and altars can be seen everywhere.
As the ancestral tradition honors, they should include copal, sawdust, incense, and the food and drink most liked by the person in whose honor the altar is placed. Not forgetting the papel picado and the sugar or chocolate skulls.
4. Costume parties!
How many Halloween parties did you go to last year and how many are you planning to go to this fall 2023 in CDMX? Although we honor our pre-Hispanic traditions, the truth is that we also love to get creative and wear the best costume to a fun party. It doesn’t matter if you went to other themed parties this year, Halloween parties are the best.
5. Nothing screams fall like these pumpkin desserts from CDMX 🎃.
Restaurant menus, especially in the dessert section, are filled with orange and delicious options. Pumpkin Pays and pies, ice cream, donuts and even milkshakes.
Some of the CDMX Secreta team’s favorites are Niddo’s pumpkin pie, Catamundi’s special donut, Sweet Monster’s pumpkin ice cream and Salem Witch Coffee and Store’s pumpkin frapé.
6. Dried leaves that crunch as we pass by 🍂.
If you’ve walked in the Bosque de Chapultepec, Paseo de la Reforma or any park in CDMX at this time of the year, you know what we’re talking about. At this time of year, the dry leaves on the pavement invariably announce the arrival of autumn in our city.
I don’t know about you, but I like to feel like a little girl again when I hear the crunching of the leaves under my feet… that, plus the autumn air that can already be felt in almost the entire city, is the prelude that one of my favorite times of the year has arrived.
What do you enjoy most about autumn in CDMX?
